2021. Angelockt von den Versprechungen des belarussischen Diktators Lukaschenko, haben Bashir und Amina mit ihrer syrischen Familie wie viele andere Geflüchtete den Flug nach Minsk gebucht, um von dort über die grüne Grenze nach Polen und dann zu ihren Verwandten in Schweden zu gelangen. Doch die Verheißung wird zur Falle. Zusammen mit Tausenden anderen steckt die Familie im sumpfigen Niemandsland zwischen Polen und Belarus fest, von den Grenzschützern beider Länder im streng abgeschirmten Sperrgebiet hin und her getrieben, abgeschnitten von jeder Hilfe.
Hier, am Rand der unermesslichen Białowieża-Wälder, kreuzen sich die Lebenswege unterschiedlicher Menschen. Jan ist Beamter des polnischen Grenzschutzes, er stammt selbst aus der Gegend, seine Frau ist schwanger, sie bauen ein Haus. Die Eskalation an der Grenze stellt die Gewissheiten seines Lebens mehr und mehr in Frage. Die Psychotherapeutin Julia ist nach einem privaten Schicksalsschlag nach Ostpolen gezogen, um sich in der Abgeschiedenheit des Grenzlands neu einzurichten. Ohne es geplant zu haben, wird sie Teil einer Gruppe von Aktivist:innen, die trotz des staatlichen Verbots versuchen, die in den Wäldern festsitzenden Geflüchteten mit dem Nötigsten zu versorgen. Sie treffen auf Bashir und Amina, die jeden Tag neu um das Überleben ihrer Familie kämpfen.
Inmitten dieser urwüchsigen Landschaft an der grünen Grenze entfaltet sich ein vielstimmiges Drama zwischen Hoffnung und Verzweiflung, Zynismus und Menschlichkeit. Wegschauen ist nicht möglich. Es geht um Leben und Tod.

In 2021, lured by the promises of Belarusian dictator Lukashenko, Bashir and Amina and their Syrian family, like many other refugees, have booked a flight to Minsk to cross the green border to Poland and then to their relatives in Sweden. But the promise turns into a trap. Together with thousands of others, the family is stuck in the swampy no-man's land between Poland and Belarus, driven back and forth by the border guards of both countries in the strictly cordoned-off restricted area, cut off from any help.
Here, on the edge of the immense Białowieża forests, the paths of different people's lives intersect. Jan is a Polish border guard officer, he comes from the area himself, his wife is pregnant and they are building a house. The escalation at the border increasingly calls the certainties of his life into question. Psychotherapist Julia has moved to eastern Poland after a personal tragedy in order to make a new life for herself in the seclusion of the borderland. Without having planned it, she becomes part of a group of activists who, despite the state ban, try to provide the refugees stuck in the woods with the basic necessities. They meet Bashir and Amina, who are fighting for their family's survival every day.
In the midst of this unspoilt landscape on the green border, a polyphonic drama unfolds between hope and despair, cynicism and humanity. It is impossible to look away. It is a matter of life and death.

W 2021 roku, zwabieni obietnicami białoruskiego dyktatora Łukaszenki, Bashir i Amina oraz ich syryjska rodzina, podobnie jak wielu innych uchodźców, zarezerwowali lot do Mińska, aby przekroczyć zieloną granicę do Polski, a następnie do swoich krewnych w Szwecji. Ale obietnica zamienia się w pułapkę. Wraz z tysiącami innych, rodzina utknęła na bagnistej ziemi niczyjej między Polską a Białorusią, wożona tam i z powrotem przez straż graniczną obu krajów w ściśle odgrodzonym obszarze zamkniętym, odcięta od jakiejkolwiek pomocy.

Jan jest funkcjonariuszem polskiej straży granicznej, sam pochodzi z tych okolic, jego żona jest w ciąży, a oni budują dom. Eskalacja sytuacji na granicy coraz bardziej podważa pewność jego życia. Psychoterapeutka Julia przeniosła się do wschodniej Polski po osobistej tragedii, aby ułożyć sobie nowe życie w zaciszu pogranicza. Nie planując tego, staje się częścią grupy aktywistów, którzy pomimo zakazu państwa starają się zapewnić uchodźcom, którzy utknęli w lesie, podstawowe potrzeby. Poznaje Bashira i Aminę, którzy każdego dnia walczą o przetrwanie swojej rodziny.
Pośród tego dziewiczego krajobrazu na zielonej granicy rozgrywa się polifoniczny dramat między nadzieją a rozpaczą, cynizmem a człowieczeństwem. Nie sposób odwrócić wzroku. To kwestia życia i śmierci.
